Indian travellers will now be able to visit Uzbekistan without a visa for up to 30 days, with the decision announced during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the Central Asian country. Uzbekistan has granted Indian citizens a 30-day visa-free entry as part of efforts to further strengthen tourism, trade and people-to-people ties between the two countries. The announcement was made during high-level discussions between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in Tashkent.

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev said bilateral trade between India and Uzbekistan had crossed the 1 billion U.S. dollar mark for the first time. He described India as a trusted strategic partner of Uzbekistan.

The two countries currently have 14 direct flight services operating every week. Mirziyoyev also noted that the number of joint ventures between India and Uzbekistan had increased sevenfold in recent years.

The two countries also continue to strengthen their cultural ties through institutions such as the Lal Bahadur Shastri Centre for Indian Culture and the Mahatma Gandhi Centre for Indian Studies. These institutions have played an important role in promoting cultural connections between India and Uzbekistan.

According to President Mirziyoyev, the popularity of yoga has increased significantly in Uzbekistan. A dedicated Yoga Federation has been operating in the country since 2018. He also pointed out that a nationwide Yoga Festival was organised across Uzbekistan in June this year.

The 30-day visa-free entry for Indian citizens is expected to provide greater convenience for travellers and further support the broader efforts to strengthen tourism and people-to-people connections between India and Uzbekistan.
